Fun with Anime & Economics #1

I'm going to go off-topic for a bit since I'm bored up in my ECON 100a class going over homework - I'm going to apply what I'm learning with anime.

EXAMPLE:
On April 5th, 2006, Ouran High School Host Club debuted in Japan. In the episode, Haruhi breaks a vase that the club was going to auction off with the starting price of ¥8,000,000. How much is that worth in Sept. 2009 USD?

First off, we must change the currency from yen to dollars.
So at the rate of 0.0085 on April 5th, 2006, ¥8,000,000 = $68,168.

But that's in April 2006 USD. We want Sept. 2009 USD, so we must summon the CPI (consumer price index). The CPI in April 2006 was 201.5 while the CPI in Sept. 2009 is 215.969.

So, $68,168 x (215.969/201.5) = $73,063.

Therefore, a ¥8,000,000 broken vase in April 2006 is worth $73,063 in Sept. 2009.

I wanted to twitter this, but this is more than 140 characters and I really wanted to get this off my chest.
Well, thanks for reading this.
