SoCal Host Club Info Panel Approved for FanimeCon 2010!

I just got word last night that the SoCal Host Club Informational Panel got approved for FanimeCon 2010! We don't know what day, time, or the location so I will be posting this here, on the SoCal Host Club webpage, and the on FanimeCon Forums thread.

Me and Ryan are very excited to host this panel, and we hope that all of you can come out and check us out!

Accurate!Junpei

All the pieces have come together to form Accurate!Junpei from Persona 3, my first true complete cosplay. Took me awhile to realize, but after ALA made me realize that I could do it.

Not to mention that I'm waiting on my Mori wig to make two complete...

And since Ryan posted his cosplay, I might as well post mine.
  • Junpei Iori - Persona 3 (Debut: Sac-Anime Summer 2009)
    • Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka - Ouran High School Host Club (Debut: FanimeCon 2007)
      • "Red Shirt" member of the State Military - Full Metal Alchemist (Debut: FanimeCon 2008)
        • Male!Philippines - Hetalia: Axis Powers (Debut: FanimeCon 2010)
Thanks to the Kimblee cosplayer at FanimeCon 2009 who pointed out my "red shirt" role!

Keep in mind these are official and complete. I have a lot more ideas to expand my cosplay resume in 2010, and I do plan to debut a new cosplay at AX 2010 if I go.

Looking Foward To Another Exciting Year For Cosplay and Otakuness

          Hey Everyone Ryu Here!,

So from what I'm seeing this year has been a good year to be an otaku. Lately since I've been trying alongside Matt here to promote and get us into other cons such as Fanime and AX; the Host Club seems to be doing well as I presume you've either seen the videos or experienced it for yourself back @ ALA. I'm dying to see how we turn out by the end of this years cosplay season. Oh speaking of which I think I'll post my cosplay list so you bloggers out there can look for me at the cons and be true otakus together.

          Here we GO!
          Death The Kid-Soul Eater
          Itachi Uchiha-Naruto
          Japan-Axis Powers: Hetalia
          Kyon-Meloncholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya
Kyouya Ootouri- Ouran High School Host Club
          Lelouche Lamperouge (Ashford)-Code Geass
          Rin Tsuchimi-Shuffle!
          Toushiro Hitsugaya-Bleach
          Zero-Code Geass
          Zero Kiryu-Vampire Knight

Well that's who to look out for. Excited with Fanime literally being 2 months away and somewhat excited for AX although with the current problems I've heard of they need to fix them or I may not attend this year except for maybe an autograph or two. I'm hoping to set a budget for everything so I can survive the cons without hassle. Looking forward to visiting Matt in a couple weeks since im on my way to Oregon to look for a house with my family. Being sick right now with the sniffles doesn't really help much. Today I picked up Cowboy Bebop and The Adventures Of Mini Goddess which I'm re-watching Bebop since I haven't watched it since Toonami took it of the waves in 2000. Sooner or later I'll post my collection on the blog but not now since I'm under the weather. Well readers its getting late here and I'm half a minute away from falling asleep on the keyboard (in which ironically I have done that and accidentally posted it) so I'm going to sign off here.

          Blog ya soon......Ja Nae

          Yes to SNAFU Con!

I'm a bit late on the announcement, but the SoCal Host Club will be at SNAFU Con for both days, October 22nd and 23rd! On Friday we will be having our informational panel, and Saturday is the main event!

Now the question is: who's going to come with us? After all, this is the reason why we're trying to set up informational panels at Fanime and AX so that we can recruit people to go to SNAFU Con, and of course we can always use people from SNAFU Con to staff as well if we're short. So please, send either me or Ryan an e-mail if you're interested in joining the SoCal Host Club.

          Sac-Anime or Anime Vegas?

OK, so here's the deal: we're waiting on Anime Vegas to see if they want our Host Club to be at their con in September. Meanwhile, my friend Ryan loves the Guests of Honors that are going to Sac-Anime, which includes Liam O' Brien, Ali Hillis (Lightning from FFXIII) and Mari Iijima (Lynn Minmay from Macross). So for the time being, I am attending Sac-Anime Summer 2010 assuming we don't hear from Anime Vegas. If I do hear from Anime Vegas, we're bolting out of this con in favor of the one in Las Vegas.

Being More Involved at Anime Conventions

As we approach my 4th year blogging out of FanimeCon and near the one year anniversary of the California Conventions Blog, I caught YouTube video of a Anime Convention Reporting Panel at Anime FX over at SFSU with Scarlet Rhapsody and Team Misaki. I thought to myself: one, this sounds a lot like what I do; and two, how can I translate what I'm doing right now into being more involved at anime conventions (besides the Host Club that I'm involved in)?

Actually, I tried suggesting a panel in which I would talk about my blog and how to get others involved in blogging at anime conventions. Unfortunately, it was shot down pretty quick and I abandoned the idea. I just never thought of doing a panel that Scarlet Rhapsody and Team Misaki did where it's just on convention reporting.

I remember talking to Victoria at ALA this past January and we were discussing how we cover conventions from a article "we talk about everything" standpoint versus your standard "here's all my pictures of pretty cosplayers." I would like to speak more about what we do at future conventions - maybe with Victoria because both of us are in the "same field" - because (like I've reiterated before) it shows a different side to conventions with everything else.

With The Con Schedule I Have...

The time between January and May is the longest between cons especially if I don't attend Sac-Con in March (which was the case this year). With the con schedule I have, the breaks gets shorter after Fanime: right after Fanime is Sac-Con June 2010, then AX on the 4th of July weekend - so there's about three cons in a month's time - then there's smaller wait between AX and Anime Vegas on Memorial Day weekend, then about another month before SNAFU Con in late October, and then one more Sac-Con in December before we hit the new year - 2011 - and Anime Los Angeles rolls around days after that. Rise, lather, and repeat.

As for the blog, well I'll find things to blog about between now and mid to late April when I start to pick up the Fanime conversation.

          Sac-Con March 2010 Update #2

I hate it when trends falter.
I have to work on Sunday, so no Sac-Con for me. It's a bummer though since I haven't been to any Sacramento conventions since Sac-Anime Summer 2009 and with the plans that I have for 2010 I may not be visiting any for a long time...
