Matthew's FanimeCon 2019 Report: Part 1 - Prologue

FanimeCon 2019.
25 years by fans, for fans.
The Silver Celebration.

It's been twelve years since I started the California Conventions Blog under "Miranda's FanimeCon Blog" where one month prior to my first major convention ever I had decided that I wanted to share my experiences and stories that would come out of this convention.

And for a moment that I thought it was going to be a one-off. Then 2008 happened and I went back to add more experiences and stories to my collection.

This followed with the copyright infringement notice & take down in 2009 and the decision to merge my two blogs into what we know today. In a way, I knew that I had achieved a milestone since attendees thought that my fan blog was the official blog of the convention and to continue this journey and see where it leads me.

I kept going until 2011 when I took the next step in working the convention as press. Much like SacAnime Summer 2008, my first ever approved press credentials, I took it as both another milestone and a challenge to elevate my coverage.

2012 (financial issues) and 2013 (decided to go to Anime Expo for my graduation gift) were skip years before returning in 2014 and continuing where I left off.

There were more skip years (job loss, visited family during Memorial Day weekend, chose to attend SakuraCon instead) ahead of a second return in 2018, and one again continuing where I left off of my expansive reporting.

Now we come to 2019. And it's time to celebrate.
