SacAnime Winter 2012 Report: Part 1 - Prologue

It's interesting how things change quickly, even faster than the transition from summer to winter. The Radisson changed its name to the Woodlake, I gained a new staff member that helped me cover SacAnime Winter 2012, and I even had a new camcorder to play around with at the convention.

But coming back here often reminds me of my early days here at SacAnime.

I'm a veteran who remembers being at Sunrise Mall and the Scottish Rite Center. I remember the formation of the T.B.A.G.R. group and I even remember the first time Vic Mignogna came to SacAnime back when he was fresh off his role of Edward Elric in the original Fullmetal Alchemist. During my badge pickup on the Thursday before the convention, I had a small chat with Dan, the convention chair, while he was getting pre-registration in order for the early pickup. I was trying to figure out how long I've known Dan and the countless years that I've been around him watching SacAnime grow, somewhere around half a decade now which even blew my mind.

Dan got me my badges at 5pm, an hour before Thursday pre-pregistration opened up which was really kind of him. I was able to head on home with enough daylight so that I could prepare for the weekend. I would be able to approach SacAnime a bit differently since I was staying in a hotel room versus commuting and I wasn't going home early for anything so I was able to experience everything.

What you will see in this report is that the convention has grown quite a bunch in the last half a decade...actually, a bit too much. This convention has been itching for a change, and by the time we get to the end of this convention, it will have been realized - and dealt with.
