SacAnime Winter 2012 Report: Part 5 - Epilogue

My first ever thoughts of SacAnime at the Sacramento Convention Center was during the drive up to SacAnime when it was at Sunrise Mall. I thought to myself: "Wouldn't it be cool if SacAnime was at the SCC before I graduated college?" This was back when I was starting out at Sacramento City College.

Now, half a year after my planned graduation at Sacramento State, that dream my finally come true. For this convention, it's been a long time coming. It's been growing bigger and bigger and deeper and deeper every convention, adding high-quality guests and events. Most of us though noticed that this convention was growing a bit too fast, as indicated by its growing pains the first time SacAnime was at the Radisson/Woodlake and the numbers out of this convention - 5190 for such a small space. To make the move to the SCC was one that the convention needed badly, and it's a move that will see its own growing pains the first time around but will pay off huge dividends.

I've been wanting to go back to staffing since I've grown to see the day that this convention move to the biggest house, and I believe that this might be the chance to make the biggest impact. A year and a half is still a long way from now, so everything might change but I'm certain that I will try to staff come Summer 2013, meaning that I will have to rely on my other staff members to report at my hometown convention.

As for the Winter 2012 convention itself, I had a good time with all my friends and all my new connections that I made over the weekend. It's sad though to have experienced first-hand as well as third-hand accounts of multiple problems (such as Robbie's dispute with the hotel), but nothing is perfect as long as we deal with the issue without having to confront guerrilla tactics. I do wonder how Summer 2012 is going to perform knowing everything that happened over the weekend plus the looming move the year after that. But for now, I'm very excited for the move. As I quote myself, "It's about freakin' time."

I would like to thank Robbie and Ray for helping me out with press this weekend, and to everyone who's supported me over the last half decade. I got everyone's back, don't you forget it!

That concludes our coverage of SacAnime Winter 2012. FanimeCon is our next stop, but we have some new conventions in between, so stay tuned for these new reports!
